SEPTEMBER 2011 - download pdf copy here

On behalf of the TWPI, welcome to the September newsletter.

Another successful Schools competition has just been completed.  Congratulations to all those who participated and well done to the winning teams.  We would like to thank all those involved in the running of the competition, especially Sue Saunders for her long hours in organizing the competition again this year.

Hopefully many of you who played in the Schools competition will register for the Clubs competition.  Although we are still finalising some of the details, it will start up on September 23 at THAC.  Details for the club contacts can be found on the TWPI website, and we encourage you to sign up with one of the teams and continue the fun.

We are also happy to announce that after a long absence, the TWPI will be running a Flippa Ball (aka junior water polo) program on Friday nights in the 25m pool at the THAC.  This will provide a venue for children in grades 3-6 to compete in schools based teams, as a fun and constructive introduction to the sport.

The U16 Boys and Girls state teams have been selected and are continuing to train hard towards their National Championships October 4-9.

As always, we are looking for assistance to keep our programs running and expanding.  If you would like to help out in anyway, please contact TWPI or one of the board members.
 Regards,

John Pankiw

Hey, my name is Emma Newell and I am the Under 16’s girl’s state water polo captain. We go away to our competition in Melbourne on the 2nd of October. The start of the competition begins on the 4th of October and finishes on the 8th. There are 25 girls teams entered in the competition this year, which gives us the chance to hopefully win a couple of games.

Our training started on the 16th of May, starting with 21 girls. The trainings started out to be quite hard to which we thought, but the trainings have just become harder as the weeks have gone on. Having to hold four minutes locked arms, and having relays with two chairs in the air. Whenever we are late to training, disrespectful to the coach or manager or have a brain fart we receive a fine that gets recorded in the fine book, and whilst we are away we will pay our fines and spend it on something enjoyable.

Our coach is my father Brett Newell, he is a very enthusiastic coach who always makes sure we are putting in one hundred percent in everything we do. Brett always pushes us to the max and makes sure we are having some fun as well, he is a great coach who is always up for a joke. Lisa Harris is our manager for the trip, so far Lisa has done a fantastic job of all areas that need to be covered for our trip. Lisa is a very well organised manager and does anything to make us girls have a laugh and be happy, like handing out us lollies after each training session

Captain and vice captain was voted by all the girls, Ellie Picken received vice captain and I received captain. We are both very enthused to have received this role and very much looking forward to leading our team to success with winning a few games.

Our fundraising so far has been outstanding; it has been a huge success. We have a quiz night coming up on the 24th of September which will be a big booster for us. We have been selling chocolate boxes, selling wine, having pie drives and raffling on Friday nights at the pool, thankyou to everyone who has supported us.

All 13 girls in the team have been putting all there effort into every training session and has really shown in there performance, we have improved massively and still progressing. We have also all been putting effort in to swim training with a club to help our fitness out. At the moment we are training Sunday, Monday and Thursday nights and the trainings are intense the whole training session and sometimes a sausage sizzle to finish the night off. We are all looking forward to a great trip ahead of us and even a few wins for Tasmania as well. Go Tassie!
